Singaporeans to Receive $400–$600 Special Cash Payment in September 2026

More than 2.4 million adult Singapore citizens will receive $400 to $600 in cash in September 2026 under the Enhanced Budget 2026 Cost-of-Living (COL) Special Payment.

The measure is intended to help with living expenses, with more support provided to those with lower incomes and lesser means. Eligible recipients do not need to apply — payments will be made automatically.

More than 2.4 million adult Singapore citizens are expected to receive $400–$600 under the Enhanced Budget 2026 COL Special Payment.

How Much Will Singaporeans Receive?

The amount depends on Assessable Income (AI) for Year of Assessment 2025 — based on income earned in 2024 — and the Annual Value (AV) of the recipient’s place of residence.

Assessable IncomeAV ≤ $15,000AV > $15,000 to $31,000AV > $31,000
Up to $22,000$600$500$400
> $22,000 to $39,000$500$500$400
> $39,000 to $100,000$400$400$400

This means the maximum payment is $600, while every eligible recipient receives at least $400.

The payment is tiered according to assessable income and the Annual Value of the recipient’s residence.

Who Is Eligible?

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a Singapore citizen residing in Singapore
  • Be 21 years old or above in 2026
  • Have Assessable Income for YA2025 of no more than $100,000
  • Own no more than one property

Singapore citizens residing overseas are not eligible. Those owning more than one property are also excluded from this particular payment.

No Application Is Required

Eligible recipients will receive the payment automatically in September 2026. There is no separate application that needs to be submitted.

ℹ️ Explore the Key Facts

Eligible recipients receive between $400 and $600, depending mainly on assessable income and residential Annual Value.

When Will the Money Arrive?

Eligible recipients will automatically start receiving their payments from 9 September 2026.

The Government encourages citizens to link their NRIC to PayNow by 30 August 2026 to receive the payment earlier, by 9 September. Those without a PayNow-NRIC-linked account may receive their payment through another registered bank account or GovCash, as applicable.

PayNow-NRIC is the default payment method for eligible recipients with an appropriately linked participating bank account.

Why Is the Payment Significant?

Unlike vouchers that can only be spent through participating merchants, this assistance comes in the form of cash.

Recipients therefore have greater flexibility to use it for their individual needs — such as groceries, transport, utilities, household expenses or other necessities.

For someone receiving $600, the payment is equivalent to an average of $50 per month if spread over 12 months.

Direct cash support gives eligible recipients flexibility in deciding how to manage their household expenses.

Part of a Wider Budget 2026 Support Package

The COL Special Payment is one component of the wider Budget 2026 support measures.

The Government had originally announced a $200–$400 COL Special Payment at Budget 2026. On 7 April 2026, it subsequently increased the payment by another $200, bringing the total to $400–$600 per eligible person.

Budget 2026 measures also include $500 in CDC Vouchers for every Singaporean household, distributed in June 2026, as well as U-Save support for eligible HDB households.

Be Alert to Scams

Large government payouts can also attract impersonation scams.

The Ministry of Finance says eligible recipients will be notified by SMS before and after their benefit has been credited. The legitimate sender is “gov.sg”.

Importantly, these SMS notifications will not contain links or ask recipients to reply or provide information. Government officials will also never ask someone to transfer money or disclose bank-login information over a phone call.

If you receive a suspicious message claiming that you need to click a link to “claim” the $400–$600 payment, do not follow it.

What Should You Do Now?

Most eligible Singaporeans don’t need to do anything to claim the payment.

You can, however, ensure your PayNow-NRIC linkage is correctly set up by 30 August 2026 if you want to receive the payment through that method as early as 9 September.
